The ERF has in its Board of Directors well-known educators, writers and academics who work in different countries around the world and who, along with their other professional activites, are committed to promote Extensive Reading among English language learners and teachers. We are now bringing you periodically a short report on our Board Members' activities and we hope this will help you to get in touch with them and engage with their initiatives in your own corner of the world.
This month, please, meet Jaya.
'Hi I'm Jaya and I work as a teacher trainer in Universiti Putra Malaysia. The courses I teach are Teaching Writing and ELT Materials. I definitely have a strong interest in ELT Materials as most of my reserach grants I have obtained are in that area. But writing is very close to my heart and I write readers. I have written 2 full readers published by Longman and have short stories and poems in several anthologies also published by Pearson-Longman. The stories in the anthologies are ones I wrote alongside peers in the Creative Writing Group, something started by Tan Bee Tin and Alan Maley in Bangkok. We have done many of these now and although Alan and myself provide input and act as coordinators, we write as well.'
