The ERF has in its Board of Directors well-known educators, writers and academics who work in different countries around the world and who, along with their other professional activites, are committed to promote Extensive Reading among English language learners and teachers. We are now bringing you periodically a short report on our Board Members' activities and we hope this will help you to get in touch with them and engage with their initiatives in your own corner of the world.
Please, meet Sue Leather.
'I’m currently working as Development Editor on a new series of readers for Heinle/Cengage Learning, to be published later this year. I’m also writing original stories for the series.
As a writer, I write mainly thrillers and crime fiction. I’ve written a number of original readers for Cambridge University Press, Macmillan Heinemann, Oxford University Press and Scholastic. I’ve had three nominations for the Extensive Reading Foundation Award, and won it for Dead Cold (CUP) in 2005.
I have also given presentations about extensive reading and original learner literature at conferences around the world.
In the context of the Extensive Reading Foundation, I am working on a committee with Alan Maley and others to launch the 'John Milne Innovation Awards scheme,’ which publicises innovative work in ER. I was also recently with Alan Maley, Philip Prowse and other board members at the IATEFL Conference in Harrogate, where we talked to IATEFL President Herbert Puchta about getting a higher profile for the ERF at the conference. More of that later…'
