Introduction
Every year, the Extensive Reading Foundation recognizes the best new works of language learner literature in English. This year, from graded readers published in 2010, the ERF judges have choosen three finalist titles in each of 5 categories: Young Learners, and 4 Adolescent & Adult categories-Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate/Advanced.
The ERF will later select one winner in each category, taking into account the votes and comments of students and teachers of English worldwide.
To encourage teachers and students to read and evaluate the books, the ERF, in cooperation with publishers, has a Finalist Evaluation Programme. In each category, two copies each of the three finalist titles are placed in the hands of 10 classes around the world. Successful applicants will receive the books soon after the finalists have been announced mid-April 2011, at the IATEFL annual conference in Brighton.
Important dates:
- Teachers apply to read the finalist titles: March 31
- Applicants notified of their selection: April 5
- List of ERF LLL Award finalists is announced at IATEFL: April 15-19
- Selected applicants receive books: April 15-25
- Evaluations submitted (on line): July 10.
Requirements for application
- Your class, school or library has an extensive reading program in place to which the supplied titles can be added.
- Students can read, evaluate and vote for the books by the July 10 deadline.
Students will be asked to provide a separate evaluation (on a scale of 1 to 5) and comment on each book read. Polling will take place on this website.
The application procedure is as follows:
- If you have not already done so, create an account for yourself on the Extensive Reading Foundation site: http://erfoundation.org
- Once your account has been established, proceed to the ERF Moodle and login using the same username and password that you created in Step 1.

In the event that more than 10 teachers apply in one category, the ERF will select for balance of country and geographical area. Preliminary decisions will be based on requests received by March 31, 2011 but requests after that date will be honored for categories that have fewer than 10 applicants.
The finalist books will be announced on the ERF website concurrently with the announcement at IATEFL.
Once the finalists have been announced, personal copies of the books may be ordered through the Cambridge International Book Centre, http://www.eflbooks.co.uk/reader_finalists.php
