The ERF takes pleasure in announcing the winners of the First Annual Language Learner Literature Award.

The announcement of these winners was made at the Japan Association for Language Teaching International Conference (JALT 2004) in Nara, Japan, on November 21st. In addition, presentations of certificates to the Award winners or their representatives are planned at other international teaching conferences over the next few months.
In this the inaugural year, the Award was for books in print and copyrighted up to and including 2003. The four winning books were selected for their outstanding overall quality and likely enduring appeal. An international jury made the final choices, taking into account the Internet votes of students, teachers and others from around the world.
In addition to the winners, the following books were selected as the shortlisted "finalists" in each category:
